Justice Mahesh Sharadchandra Sonak Takes Oath as Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court

Why in News? 

Justice Mahesh Sharadchandra Sonak was sworn in as the 18th Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. 

Key Points 

  • Appointment: The appointment was made by the President of India under Article 217 of the Constitution on the advice of the Union Law Ministry, following the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium. 
  • Oath Administration: The oath of office was administered by Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar at a ceremony held in the Birsa Munda Mandap at Lok Bhavan, Ranchi. 
  • Predecessor: He succeeded Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan. 
  • Tenure: He will serve as Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court until his retirement on November 28, 2026. 
  • Previous Position: He served as a judge of the Bombay High Court before elevation.
