DRDO to Organise Mega Defence Technology Exhibition in Motihari, Bihar

Why in News? 

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has organised a mega exhibition of indigenous defence technologies in Motihari, Bihar in April 2026 to showcase India’s defence capabilities and promote the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. 

Key Points 

  • Venue: The exhibition will be held at Mahatma Gandhi Prekshagrih in Motihari, Bihar. 
  • Organiser: The event is being organised by the Defence Research and Development Organisation. 
  • Inauguration: The exhibition will be inaugurated by Radha Mohan Singh, Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence. 
  • Theme: The exhibition will be organised under the theme “Shanti, Satya aur Vigyan ka Sangam – Surakshit aur Aatmanirbhar Bharat ki Aur.” 
  • Objective: The event aims to promote awareness about indigenous defence technologies, encourage scientific temper among youth and highlight India’s progress toward self-reliance in defence manufacturing under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Historic Shift in Bihar: Samrat Choudhary Becomes First BJP Chief Minister

Why in News? 

In a landmark political transition, Samrat Choudhary was sworn in as the 24th Chief Minister of Bihar on 15th April, 2026. This marks a historic first for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has never before held the state's top post in its 46-year history in Bihar.  

Key Points 

  • Oath of Office: Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain administered the oath of office to Choudhary at a ceremony held at Lok Bhawan, Patna. 
    • End of an Era: The transition follows the resignation of Nitish Kumar, the state's longest-serving Chief Minister, who stepped down to contest and subsequently join the Rajya Sabha. 
  • New Leadership Structure: Alongside the CM, Bijendra Prasad Yadav and Vijay Kumar Chaudhary from the JD(U) were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers 
  • Profile of the New Chief Minister: Born on 16 November, 1968, Samrat Choudhary is the son of veteran leader Shakuni Choudhary. 
    • Diverse Career: He has previously held ministerial portfolios under various governments, including the RJD and JD(U), before joining the BJP in 2017. 
  • Cabinet and Portfolio Allocation: The new government has signaled a focus on fast-tracking development and administration:  
    • CM’s Portfolios: Samrat Choudhary has retained 29 portfolios, including crucial departments such as Home, Vigilance, Health, and Industries. 
    • Deputy CMs: Vijay Kumar Chaudhary has been allocated 10 departments including Education and Transport, while Bijendra Prasad Yadav oversees Finance and Energy 
  • Double-Engine Governance: Analysts expect closer policy alignment with the Centre, potentially accelerating major infrastructure and industrial projects in the state.

C-DAC Launches ‘e-SafeHER’ Cyber Security Awareness Programme

Why in News? 

The ‘e-SafeHER’ Cyber Security Awareness Training Programme has been launched to enable one million women across rural India to safely participate in the digital ecosystem. 

Key Points 

  • Launch: The initiative has been launched by C-DAC Hyderabad, a scientific society under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, in collaboration with Reliance Foundation.  
  • Objective: The programme aims to build cyber security awareness among women in rural India, enabling them to safely engage in digital activities such as financial transactions, livelihoods and access to online services. 
    • The initiative aims to empower one million “Cyber Sakhis” across rural India over the next three years. 
  • Programme: The initiative is anchored under the Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) Programme of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. 
  • Implementation: 
    • C-DAC Hyderabad will develop and localise cybersecurity training materials. 
    • Reliance Foundation will facilitate outreach and training through women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in rural communities. 
    • The programme will initially begin with training Cyber Sakhis in Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.
