Major Thermal Power Project to Be Set Up in Salboni, West Bengal

The Chief Minister of West Bengal is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for a Rs 16,000 crore thermal power project in Salboni, located in Paschim Medinipur district. This is the largest private investment in West Bengal's core sector in the last 14 years.

- Under SHAKTI Para B (iv), the coal linkages have been earmarked to the States of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal, Assam and Kerala for a capacity of 4000 MW, 5600 MW, 6740 MW, 3299 MW, 1600 MW, 2000 MW, 4100 MW, 500 MW and 500 MW respectively.

Haryana Government Launches Medical Insurance Scheme for State Players

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Sain announced ₹20 lakh medical insurance to every player in the state. The announcement was made during the inauguration of 3rd All India Shiv Kumar Smriti Basketball Competition held in Kiloi village, Rohtak.

French aircraft manufacturer Dassault Aviation will carry out repair and maintenance and overhaul (MRO) of the Indian Air Force 's Rafale and Mirage-2000 fighter aircraft at the Noida airport complex . The company will also set up a Centre of Excellence and a university for this.

- 1365 hectares of land has been acquired for the MRO facility , which is located near Noida International Airport .
- Aeronautical and Avionics courses at high school, polytechnic and graduation levels will be started at the Centre of Excellence established by Dassault .
- It aims to reduce foreign dependency by enhancing MRO capacity in India, promote self-reliance in the defence sector and enhance investment and employment opportunities in the state by attracting FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) .

- Rafale can fly at a speed of 2,222.6 kilometres per hour and an altitude of 50,000 feet.
- This fighter aircraft is approximately 15.27 metres long and can carry 9,500 kilograms of bombs and ammunition at a time.

- Major Dhyan Chand He was a field hockey player who played international hockey from the year 1926 to 1949 .

Soil and Manure Swaraj Campaign
Why in News?
Important initiatives are being taken towards improving soil health through “Soil and Manure Swaraj Abhiyan” in the southern region of Rajasthan, especially in the tribal dominated areas.

- It aims to improve soil health, promote organic farming and empower rural women in farming and leadership.
- The campaign will cover six tribal-dominated districts located at the tri-junction of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh .
- It is being mainly implemented in Banswara and surrounding areas of southern Rajasthan.
- This campaign involves upgrading cow dung and farmyard manure using scientific methods and increasing soil fertility by using rock phosphate and bio-fertilizers.

- Formation and management of co-operative societies
- The campaign coordinates with programmes like the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) and Soil Health Card Scheme.

- It is a centrally sponsored programme launched by the Ministry of Rural Development in the year 2011 .
- It aims to eliminate rural poverty by promoting a variety of livelihoods and improved access to financial services for rural poor households across the country .
- This involves working with community institutions through community professionals in a spirit of self-help, which is a unique proposition of DAY-NRLM.
- It affects livelihoods, such as:
- Organising rural households into SHGs.
- To organise one female member from every rural poor family into self-help groups.
- Assist in training and capacity building of SHG members .
- Providing access to financial resources from its own institutions and banks.
Soil Health Card Scheme
- On February 19, 2015, the nationwide 'National Soil Health Card' scheme was launched at Suratgarh in Sriganganagar district of Rajasthan .
- The main objective of this scheme is to assist the states in providing soil health cards to farmers across the country.
- The theme of this scheme is: Healthy Earth, Green Fields.
- Under this scheme, rural youth and farmers up to 40 years of age can establish soil testing laboratory and do sample testing.
- It costs up to 5 lakh rupees to set up a laboratory, 75 percent of which is borne by the central and state governments. The same provision exists for self-help groups, farmers' cooperatives, farmers' groups or farmers' producer organizations.
- Under the scheme, soil status is regularly assessed by the State Governments every 2 years so that nutrient deficiencies can be identified and corrections can be implemented.

The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh has approved an amount of ₹44.24 crore under the PRASAD Scheme of the Central Government to make Maa Pitambara Peeth a major religious tourist destination of the state.
