IndiaAI and ICMR Sign MoU for AI-Based Healthcare Innovation

Why in News?  

IndiaAI and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote responsible and scalable adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India’s healthcare sector. 

Key Points  

  • MoU: IndiaAI, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), signed an MoU with ICMR to strengthen AI-driven healthcare research and innovation in India.  
  • Objective: The partnership aims to create a nationally coherent and interoperable AI ecosystem for healthcare by combining AI infrastructure with biomedical research expertise.  
  • AIKosh Dataset Platform: ICMR will contribute anonymised and ethics-approved health datasets, AI models, and toolkits developed under the Medical Information Data for AI Solutions (MIDAS) framework to the AIKosh platform for use by researchers, startups, and innovators.  
  • Compute Infrastructure: IndiaAI will provide ICMR with GPU-based and high-performance computing infrastructure at subsidised rates to support advanced AI research in healthcare.  
  • ICMR: 
    • Headquarters: New Delhi.  
    • Operates under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.  
    • Established in 1911 as the Indian Research Fund Association (IRFA).  
    • Renamed as the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in 1949.

India to Host First International Big Cat Alliance Summit in New Delhi

Why in News? 

India will host the first International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) Summit in June at New Delhi. The summit aims to strengthen global cooperation for the conservation of big cats and their habitats.

  • International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA): The International Big Cat Alliance was launched by India in 2023 on the sidelines of the 50th anniversary of Project Tiger. 
  • It focuses on the conservation of seven big cat species: 
    • Tiger 
    • Lion 
    • Leopard 
    • Snow Leopard 
    • Cheetah 
    • Jaguar 
    • Puma 
  • Convergence: The alliance seeks to bring together range countries, conservation organizations, and experts. 
  • Strengthen Global Cooperation: Promote collaboration among countries for conservation efforts. 
  • Capacity Building: Enhance skills and resources for conservation authorities. 
  • Mobilize Funding: Encourage international funding and partnerships.
