Chhattisgarh got Three Awards for Excellent Work in Male Sterilization Fortnight

Why In New?

• In the National Family Planning Conference held in New Delhi on July 27, 2022, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has honored Chhattisgarh with three awards for its excellent work in Male Sterilization Fortnight.

Key Points

• Chhattisgarh ranks first in the country in sterilization during the last three years 2019 to 2021 during the vasectomy fortnight.
• Union Minister of State for Health Dr. Bharti Praveen Panwar rewarded the state for this achievement. Deputy Director of Family Planning Program Dr. T.K. Tonder and Consultant Dr. Roshan Gupta received this award on behalf of Chhattisgarh.
• The state has received awards in two more categories for male sterilization. Dr. Sanjay Naval has got the second prize at the national level for the maximum number of vasectomy.
• Mitanin Kevara Verma of Tilda, Raipur district has been awarded in the category of Couple Motivation (motivation) for male sterilization.
• Deputy Director of Family Planning Program Dr. T.K. Tondar informed that during the last three years, 3212 male sterilizations have been done in the state during the male sterilization fortnight. During this, 1695 men have undergone sterilization in the year 2019-20, 168 in the year 2020-21 and 1349 in the year 2021-22.
• During the sterilization fortnight, by running special campaigns from village level to district level, misconceptions and myths spread among the people regarding male sterilization are dispelled. Men are motivated for sterilization by organizing 'Mor Mitan Mor Sangwari' Chaupal at the village level.
