Uttar Pradesh to Create its 76th District

Why in News? 

The Government of Uttar Pradesh has announced the process to form the state’s 76th district, to be named Kalyan Singh Nagar, as a tribute to the late former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh.

• The proposed district will be carved out of parts of Aligarh and Bulandshahr.

Key Points

• Kalyan Singh (1932–2021):
  • He was born on 5th January, 1932 in Atrauli, Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh).
  • He served twice as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, first from 1991 to 1992 and again from 1997 to 1999.
  • He also held the posts of Governor of Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.
  • On March 28, 2022, President Ram Nath Kovind honoured Kalyan Singh with Padma Vibhushan (posthumously). In the same year, the Government of India also released a postal stamp in his honour.

The 18th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Exhibition 2025 concluded in Gurugram, Haryana, highlighting innovations in sustainable urban transport.

  • It has been organised annually since 2008 under the National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
  • It aims to promote sustainable urban mobility through knowledge sharing, capacity building, and policy dialogue.
• About the 18th Edition:
  • It was organised in Gurugram, Haryana with the theme of “Urban Development and Mobility Nexus” focusing on cleaner transport, innovative financing, and inclusivity in public transit.
