UP Signed MoU under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0

Why in News? 

The Government of Uttar Pradesh has signed a reform‑linked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of India under the Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0, marking the State’s entry into the reform‑oriented implementation framework of the Mission.  

  • Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 was earlier approved by the Union Cabinet on 10 March 2026. 

Key Points: 

  • MoU Signing: A Reform‑Linked MoU under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 was signed between the Centre and Uttar Pradesh to strengthen rural drinking water governance and sustainable service delivery. 
    • The signing took place in the presence of Union Minister of Jal Shakti C. R. Paatil and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. 
    • The MoU outlines 11 key structural reform areas, including governance architecture, service utility framework, participatory governance and research & innovation. 
  • Focus: The reform‑linked framework emphasises accountability, assured service delivery, institutional capacity building, digital governance and community participation for long‑term sustainability of rural water supply systems. 
  • Technology: Provisions include handing over completed piped water supply schemes to Gram Panchayats through “Jal Arpan” process, operationalising the Decision Support System (DSS) for planning, and introducing Meri Panchayat app for local service evaluation. 
  • Campaign: The agreement includes observing Jal Utsav, a three‑tier annual water celebration campaign from Gram Panchayat to national levels, with National Jal Mahotsav 2026 launched in March. 
    • Jal Jeevan Mission has been extended till December 2028 with an enhanced budget, aiming at universal rural household tap water supply, quality, sustainability and community ownership. 
  • Impact: Through structural reforms and strengthened implementation, the Mission aims to ensure regular, safe and sustainable drinking water services, improving quality of life, especially for rural communities and women.
