Jang Bahadur Singh Receives the “Son of Siwan, Pride of Bihar” Honour
- 105-year-old folk singer and freedom fighter Jang Bahadur Singh received the “Son of Siwan, Pride of Bihar” honour by former Mauritius President Prithviraj Singh Roopam.
- The award was presented at Jeeradei on the death anniversary of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, his birthplace.
- The event was organised by Bihari Connect Global and the Bihar Foundation London Chapter.
About Jang Bahadur Singh
- Born on December 10, 1920, in Kausad village (Siwan), he dedicated his life to patriotic and Bhojpuri folk singing.
- Between 1942–47, he spread nationalist messages through songs, faced British repression, and was imprisoned.
- He popularized Bhojpuri folk music across regions like Asansol, Jharia, Dhanbad, Durgapur, Sambalpur, and Ranchi with his powerful voice.
- Known for renditions of Ramayana, Bhairavi, and patriotic songs; his voice was said to carry miles without amplification.
- Credited with laying the foundation of Bhojpuri music, as noted by singer Bharat Sharma Vyas; also admired as a skilled wrestler.
