Why in News?
The Government of Uttar Pradesh has officially renamed the Governor’s official residence in Lucknow from Raj Bhavan to Jan Bhavan.
Key Points
- Authority: Renaming was done by the UP government in line with Union Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines on standardising names of Governors’ residences across India.
- Reason for Name Choice: The name “Lok Bhavan” could not be used because a Lok Bhavan already exists as the Chief Minister’s office.
- Hence, “Jan Bhavan” was selected.
- Objective: Part of a broader initiative to make official nomenclature more public-friendly, fostering people-centric governance symbolism.
- Significance: Symbolises democracy, accessibility, and the connection between the state and its citizens.
