State-of-the-Art Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles (EVs) will be Built on the Expressways

Why In News?
According to information received from the media on October 25, 2023, state-of-the-art charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) will be built on the expressway of Uttar Pradesh. For this, the process of setting up public charging stations with battery swapping systems has started.
Key Points:
- Public charging stations with battery swapping systems will be set up on Yamuna, Agra-Lucknow, Bundelkhand, Purvanchal and Gorakhpur Link Expressways.
- The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) will develop these charging stations in PPP mode.
- UPEIDA will give land for 10 years on ordinary lease to the selected applicants for charging stations. Also, UPEIDA will provide 100 percent financial support. Through the tender, the charge point operator will be selected who will develop the public charging station.
- Apart from this, the government will set up 2000 charging stations to promote electric vehicles. This includes 1,300 EV public charging stations in municipal cities including Agra, Lucknow, Prayagraj, 100 in heritage sites like Ram Mandir, Taj Mahal, 200 at tourist places like Mathura-Vrindavan and Varanasi-Ayodhya and 400 EV public charging stations on national and state highways of the state.
