UP Government Introduces Aadhaar‑Based Property Registration System

Why in News? 

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that Aadhaar‑based authentication will be made mandatory for property registration 

Key Points 

  • New RequirementAadhaar‑based authentication will be compulsory for all property registration procedures in Sub‑Registrar Offices in Uttar Pradesh from 1 February 2026. 
  • Authentication Methods: Identity of buyers, sellers and witnesses will be verified electronically using e‑KYC, biometric authentication and e‑signatures linked to Aadhaar. 
  • Objective: The initiative is designed to prevent fraudulent property registrations, impersonation and forged documents while improving the credibility of property records 
    • Mandatory Aadhaar verification is expected to bring greater transparency and reliability to the registration process and reduce land dispute cases in courts. 
  • Digital Governance: The reform aligns with the state’s broader focus on digital governance and strengthening the property registration ecosystem technologically.  
  • Administrative Directive: The government has issued necessary instructions to all Sub‑Registrar Offices to prepare for the implementation of the new authentication system.
