Why In News?
- On December 10, 2022 the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare honored Chhattisgarh for achieving 100 percent target of making health and wellness centers functional before the deadline.
Key Points
- Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gave certificates to Chhattisgarh for this achievement at a program organized in Banaras on Universal Health Coverage Day.
- Dr. Poonam Sisodia, Joint Director, Health and Family Welfare Department, Surguja Division, received this honor on behalf of Chhattisgarh in Banaras.
- It is known that Chhattisgarh has functionalized more centers than the target set for the operation of health and wellness centers till December 2022. Chhattisgarh had got a target to upgrade a total of 4825 Primary Health Centers, Sub Health Centers and Urban Health Centers and operate them as Health and Wellness Centers. At present, 62 more than this target i.e., 4887 centers are being operated in the state.
- Congratulating the Health Department and National Health Mission, Chhattisgarh for this excellent work and achievement, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Health Minister T.S Singh Deo said that soon all the selected health centers in the state will be upgraded as Health and Wellness Centers. - It is worth mentioning that the health and wellness centers of the state provide prenatal care and delivery, newborn health and immunization, family planning and reproductive health, national health program and communicable and non-communicable disease screening and management, mental health screening and management. 12 types of health services such as outpatient care and management for common diseases, general eye-nose-ear-throat care, oral health care, elderly health care services and emergency medical facilities are being provided.
- Yoga and wellness activities are also being conducted through these centers to make people aware of health. To provide universal primary health care and better health services to the residents of the state, Community Health Officers (CHOs) have been appointed in the Sub Health Center Health and Wellness Centers.
