5 Teachers of the State were honoured with the National Teacher’s Award 2023

Why In News?

On September 5, 2023, President Draupadi Murmu honored five teachers from Madhya Pradesh with the National Teachers Award, 2023 at a function organized at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on the occasion of Teachers' Day.

Key Points:

  • President Draupadi Murmu presented the National Teachers' Awards for the year 2023 to a total of 75 selected teachers from across the country at a function held at Vigyan Bhawan.
  • In this teacher's honor ceremony, all the awards were given a cash prize of Rs 50,000, a citation, a shawl, a shawl and a shawl.
  • President Draupadi Murmu presented the National Teachers' Awards to Sarika Gharu of Narmadapuram, Chetna Khambete of Indore, Dr. Yashpal Singh of Bhopal, Ravikant Mishra of Datia and Seema Agnihotri of Ratlam at the ceremony.
  • Sarika Gharu, a teacher at the Government Higher Secondary School at Pipariya in Narmadapuram, made her classroom a school of fun to increase the enrollment of tribal students. Due to their hard work, the tribal students at the school have received many awards.
  • Chetna Khambet, a teacher at Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2, Indore, has been teaching biology in an interesting way for 18 years. He has developed 3-D models and interactive learning materials for the science laboratory.
  • Dr. Yashpal Singh of Eklavya Adarsh Residential School, Bhopal was awarded for his efforts in bringing about social change and in the field of education. Along with imparting knowledge to the students, he has made a commendable effort to bring awareness in society against issues like environmental protection and evils like child marriage, dowry.
  • Ravikant Mishra of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Bekar, Datia was awarded for making education simple and exciting using technology. He has taken several steps like teaching on his YouTube channel, taking live classes on PM e-Vidya national channels and creating awareness on important issues like health.
  • Seema Agnihotri of Cm Rise Government Vinoba Higher Secondary School, Ratlam was honoured for making teaching material enjoyable through information technology. To make education interesting, he has organized story reading competitions, newspaper writing, drama and dance competitions involving the community.
  • National Teacher’s Day:
    • Celebrated on 5th September every year since 1962, the day aims to honor the contribution of teachers including school teachers, researchers and professors in India.
    • The then President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, suggested celebrating his birthday as Teacher's Day in response to the students' request for the celebration.
  • National Teacher’s Award:
    • The National Teachers Awards aims to celebrate the unique contribution of some of the finest teachers of the country and to honor those teachers who through their commitment have not only improved the quality of education but also enriched the lives of their students.
    • These awards are presented by the President of India on 5th September every year.
    • The award consists of a silver medal, a certificate and a cash amount of Rs 50,000.
    • This year, in addition to the teachers selected by the School Education and Literacy Department, teachers selected by the Higher Education Department and Skill Development Ministry have also been included in the scope of the award.
