Why in News?  

The Surya Devbhoomi Challenge 2.0 was launched in Uttarakhand in April 2026 to promote heritage conservation, adventure tourism, and regional development through a high-altitude endurance event.

  • Launch: Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan inaugurated the ‘Surya Devbhoomi Challenge 2.0’ by flagging it off in the Himalayan region of Garhwal, Uttarakhand.   
    • The 113-kilometre expedition traverses three sacred Kedars—Kalpeshwar, Rudranath, and Tungnath.  
    • It is aligned with the Vibrant Village Programme to strengthen infrastructure and development in remote border villages.   
  • Objective: The initiative aims to promote heritage conservation, adventure-based tourism, and sustainable regional development in Uttarakhand.  
  • Organisers: The event is organised by the Indian Army under development-focused initiatives in the Himalayan region.
