Why in News?
The Sahitya Akademi Award is a prestigious literary honour conferred annually by the Sahitya Akademi for outstanding books in 24 recognised Indian languages.

- Statutory Status: The Sahitya Akademi is an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, established in 1954.
