78 Percent Voting on 20 Seats in the First Phase of Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections

Why In News?

On November 7, 2023, Chhattisgarh's Chief Electoral Officer Reena Babasaheb Kangale has informed that a total of 78 percent voting has been recorded in the first phase of Chhattisgarh Assembly elections in 20 assembly seats.

Key Points:

  • According to the information given by the Chief Electoral Officer, Chhattisgarh, among the 20 assembly constituencies in the first phase of Assembly Elections 2023, Bastar assembly has the highest voter turnout of 84.67% and Bijapur has the lowest 48.37%.
  • According to the final figures released by the Election Commission, 78 percent voting in the 20 assembly seats in the first phase is more than 1.53 percent in the year 2018.
  • As many as 126 new polling stations were set up in 12 assembly constituencies of Bastar, where voting was held for the first time since Independence. Earlier, polling stations were not set up as they were highly sensitive and Naxal-infested areas. More than 50 percent voting was recorded in most of these centres.
