New Education Policy can be Implemented in Higher Education

Why In News?

  • According to the information received from the media on September 18, 2022, after the primary level in Uttarakhand, the new education policy can be implemented in higher education this month. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will launch a new policy in higher education.

  • Uttarakhand Higher Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat said that the curriculum has been prepared under the new education policy in higher education. The annual examination system was implemented due to lack of faculty in universities and colleges, but now it will be abolished and the semester system will be implemented.
  • In the curriculum prepared under the new education policy, 70 percent of the curriculum will be applicable equally in all universities, while 30 percent of the syllabus will be able to be changed by the universities according to their own. The course has also been made employable.
  • It is known that a task force was constituted under the chairmanship of the Secondary Education Minister to prepare the curriculum under the new education policy by the state universities. The Higher Education Minister was made its Vice President.
  • Apart from this, a curriculum formulation committee was formed under the chairmanship of Kumaon University Vice-Chancellor NK Joshi by nominating vice-chancellors of Doon University, Uttarakhand Open University, Shridev Suman University and Almora University as members.
  • In July 2022, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had launched 'Bal Vatika' in Uttarakhand under the New Education Policy-2020. This made Uttarakhand the first state in the country to implement the new education policy.
  • Under this, 4447 Anganwadi centers running in the primary school premises have been started as Bal Vatika. In Anganwadi centers, pre-primary has been named 'Bal Vatika'. A separate curriculum has been prepared for this.
  • At present, there are 21 private universities, three deemed universities, one central university and 12 state universities operating in the state.
