The Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Pralhad Joshi, released a new BIS standard for incense sticks, to enhance consumer safety and product quality, on National Consumer Day 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

- Standard Title: IS 19412:2025 – Incense Sticks (Agarbatti) is an Indian Standard developed by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
- BIS: It is India’s national standards body, established under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, responsible for setting and certifying quality and safety standards.
- Consumer Confidence: Products complying with IS 19412:2025 are eligible to carry the BIS Standard Mark, enabling consumers to identify safe, tested, and quality-assured incense sticks.
- Prohibited Substances: The standard restricts the use of insecticidal chemicals such as alethrin, permethrin, cypermethrin, deltamethrin, and fipronil.
