MP's 100 years old Musical Heritage Maihar Band to be revived

Why is News?

On August 17, 2023, Madhya Pradesh's Culture, Tourism and Religious Trust and Religious Affairs Minister Ms. Usha Thakur informed that the 100-year-old musical heritage Maihar Band will be revived in the state. Based on the Guru-Shishya tradition, the Maihar Band will be operated as 'Maihar Band Gurukul'.

Key Points:

  • The Gurukul will train 150 rare bandis of Baba Ustad Alauddin Khan. Trainees will be able to get training in all the instruments used in Maihar orchestra in the Gurukul run in Maihar Music College Building Maihar.
  • It is known that the unique and unique instrument of the field of music art is a unique example of the Maihar Band music tradition, which is the first state in the country to revive and move forward by preserving the ancient tradition of music.
  • Minister Ms. Thakur informed that the training session in Gurukul will be for a maximum of 2 years. During the training period, the trainees will be given a scholarship of Rs 10,000 per month. Five retired musicians of the Maihar Band will be given a felicitation fund of Rs 37,500 for training. In the initial session, 20 trainees will be selected and given training.
  • Minister Ms. Thakur informed that Gurukul will not only revive Maihar Band but will also be able to establish many categories of Maihar Bands by training the instruments presented in Maihar Orchestra.
