MoU For Geo-Technical Evaluation Project of Bauxite Reserves of Chhattisgarh

Why in News?

  • An MoU was signed on May 11, 2022 between Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology (SECOST), Raipur and Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminum Research, Development and Design Center (JNARDDC), Ministry of Minerals, Government of India for the project 'Geotechnical Evaluation of Bauxite Deposits of Chhattisgarh'.

Key Points

  • The MoU was signed by Dr. S. Karmakar, Director General, Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology and Regional Science Center and Dr. Anupam Agnihotri, Director, JNARDDC.
  • Under the MoU, both the institutes will prepare a district-wise digital database of laterite and bauxite storage using geo-referenced maps and geotechnical assessment of bauxite and laterite deposits located in Chhattisgarh with the help of space technology.
  • This project will be very useful for the aluminum industry facing shortage of good grade raw ore (Bauxite) and bauxite miners and industries using aluminum in various forms and processes.
  • Apart from the entrepreneurs dealing in bauxite and laterite ores, the existing mine owners and bauxite industries located in Chhattisgarh and Central India will also be benefited.
  • The database obtained from the state's new entrepreneurs remote sensing and GIS can be used in any existing mineral, aluminum industry.
