Madhya Pradesh to Host Khelo India Youth Games 2022

Why In News?

  • On October 20, 2022, at the announcement program held at Ashok Hotel in New Delhi, Union and Youth Affairs Minister Anurag Thakur handed over the torch of the 5th 'Khelo India Youth Games-2022' to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and informed that The Khelo India Youth Games will be hosted by Madhya Pradesh this time.

Key Point

  • The 5th Khelo India Youth Games-2022 will be held in 8 cities of the state Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Mandla, Maheshwar and Balaghat from January 31 to February 11, 2023.
  • Chief Minister Shri Chouhan informed that the sports budget in the state was Rs. 5 crore in the year 2003, which has now increased to Rs. 350 crore and 11 academies of 18 sports have been established in the state.
  • He said that efforts are being made to make the sports infrastructure of international standard in Madhya Pradesh, so that the players will not only get basic facilities in the academy but will also get stadiums, mini stadiums, coaching and training arrangements in every district.
  • The Chief Minister informed that various sports competitions are being organized at gram panchayat level to maintain the atmosphere of sports in Madhya Pradesh. Competitions for the elderly have also been organized in it.
  • He informed that for the first time in the Khelo India Youth Games, the traditional sport Mallakhamb has also been included. Mallakhamb is a state sport of Madhya Pradesh and the performance of the players of the state in this game is leading in the country.
  • It is known that in the Khelo India Youth Games-2021, the players of traditional sports Mallakhamb and Break Dancing of Madhya Pradesh performed brilliantly.
  • It is known that Break Dance has been included as a sport in Paris Olympics-2024.
