Why in News?
According to the information received from the media on December 21, 2023, the Domicile Bill based on 1932 land records has been passed again by the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly.
Key Points
- In this Domicile Bill, land records of 1932 have been recognised to determine the residence status of the people.
- The bill provides that only the persons listed in Khatian (land records) or their ancestors will be considered local residents of Jharkhand.
- On the basis of this, they will be entitled to third and class government jobs in the state.
- It may be noted that the Domicile Bill passed by sound opinion was recently returned by Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan with some suggestions.
- The Government of Jharkhand passed the Domicile Bill 2022 on November 11, 2022 during a special session for the definition of local people and other benefits in Jharkhand, also known as the 1932 Khatian Bill.
