Assam Launches ‘Eti Koli Duti Paat’ Scheme

Why in News?
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the Mukhya Mantri “Eti Koli Duti Paat” scheme at Doomdooma in Tinsukia district in January 2026.
Key Points
- Objective: To provide one-time financial assistance to tea garden workers in Assam as recognition for their contribution to the state’s tea industry.
- Target Beneficiaries: Covers permanent and casual tea garden workers (also called Cha Shramiks) across the state.
- Financial Assistance: A one-time aid of ₹5,000 will be provided to each eligible tea garden worker.
- Coverage: More than six lakh workers employed in 836 tea gardens across 27 districts and 73 Assembly constituencies will benefit.
- Central Focus: The scheme is part of the state government’s broader welfare outreach and is aimed at recognising the role of tea workers in Assam’s 200-year-old tea industry.
- Associated Initiatives: Alongside, the CM inaugurated mobile creches and mobile toilet services in tea garden areas to promote child care, health, dignity and worker safety.
- Government’s Stance: The initiative fulfils an election promise and reiterates the government’s commitment to inclusive development of tea tribes and indigenous communities.
