Day 8: What is the difference between ballistic and cruise missiles? (50 words)

    Approach:

    • Briefly define what missiles are and their broad classification.
    • Break down the comparison into easily understandable points.
    • Conclude suitably.

    Introduction:

Ballistic and cruise missiles are both advanced weaponry systems used in modern warfare, but they differ in their propulsion, flight paths, and interception strategies. Ballistic missiles rely on rocket propulsion, while cruise missiles are powered by jet engines throughout their flight.

    Body:

    Ballistic Missiles Cruise Missiles
Powered initially by rockets, then unpowered for most of the journey. Continuously powered by jet engines throughout the flight.
Follows a fixed, parabolic trajectory with limited maneuverability. Moves at a lower altitude with high maneuverability.
Harder to detect, but easier to intercept once detected. Easier to detect, but difficult to intercept due to low altitude.
Shorter ranges and lower speeds. Longer ranges and higher speeds.
    Example: Agni missiles. Example: BrahMos.

    Conclusion:

Ballistic and cruise missiles serve different strategic purposes. While ballistic missiles offer long-range and faster capabilities, cruise missiles are more maneuverable and harder to intercept. Each has its advantages depending on the mission's requirements.
