  • 1. Identify the state in which Thrissur Kole wetlands,which is a Ramsar Site, is situated.


    In Kerala, Thrissur Kole Wetlands is a Ramsar site. It gives 40 per cent of the Kerala’s rice requirement and acts as a natural drainage system for Thrissur city. The Kole Wetlands is one of largest, highly productive and threatened wetlands in Kerala and has been declared in Ramsar Convention for protection and it comes in Central Asian Flyway of migratory birds. It has been in news due to the presence of alien fish as they have the potential to outnumber the native species.


  • 2. Identify the place where Panchaloha idols of Chola temple were discovered.


    Andhra Pradesh. Motupalli, in A.P., where a historic temple of Veerabhadraswamy, a fiery form of Lord Siva is located, was an important port with flourishing trade with South Asian countries during the medieval period. The temple, constructed during the regime of the Cholas, features stone inscriptions in Telugu and Tamil and awe-inspiring Panchaloha idols. The temple remains closed ever since the Department of Archaeology took it over for conservation and preservation in the wake of discovery of Panchaloha idols of gods and goddesses including that of Lord Nataraja in dancing posture and Bhadrakali in the 1970s.

    Indian Railways has decided to rename Arasalu railway station in Shivamogga district of Karnataka as Malgudi station. This is to pay homage to the location of director-actor Shankar Nag's popular television series – Malgudi Days, based on R.K. Narayan’s novel ‘Malgudi Days’ – some of whose scenes were shot at the old Arasalu railway station. The old station in Arasalu, where the series was shot, is now in ruins and the Indian Railways plans to turn it into a railway museum.

    In Assam, which has come in news due to trans-boundary conservation efforts needed for the protection of elephants, between India and Bangladesh. The elephants in the area are under threat due to rising human settlements and electrical border fencing. It is located at international border between India and Bangladesh, ranging from the western side of the Karimganj district of Assam to the eastern side to the Sylhet district of Bangladesh.


  • 5. Identify the place where 2nd meeting of Asian Rhino Range Countries took place.


    New Delhi hosted the 2nd Asian Rhino Range Countries meeting. It was organized by the Union Ministry of the Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC), and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Asian Rhino Specialist Group along with World Wildlife Fund-India (WWF), International Rhino Foundation and Aaranyak, an NGO. Asian Rhino Range Countries include Bhutan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Nepal. During the conference New Delhi Declaration was adopted which underscored trans-boundary collaboration among India, Nepal, and Bhutan for the conservation and protection of the greater one-horned rhino.
