Two projects—Kakrapar Atomic Power Project (KAPP 3&4) (2x700 MW) at Kakrapar, Gujarat and Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (RAPP 7&8) (2x700 MW) at Rawatbhata, Rajasthan are at various stages of construction.
- There have been delays in respect of these projects mainly on account of delays in receipt of critical equipment like Steam Generators, Endshields etc.
- The 500 MW Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) constructed by BHAVINI at Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu is at an advanced stage of commissioning.
- PFBR is a first of its kind reactor in the country and development/manufacture of large sized equipment/components took time.
- In view of its technological complexity, abundant caution is being taken during erection/installation and commissioning of various systems.
- Due to its first of a kind design, there have been certain additional stipulations by the regulatory body which are being complied with.
- Several measures were taken to expedite the deliveries of the equipment and as a result, most of the equipment have now been received.
- As of June 2016, KAPP 3&4 and RAPP 7&8 had achieved an overall physical progress of 75.5% and 61.5% respectively.
