Syria government agreed o talk to rebels
Jan 25, 2014

Syria's government and opposition delegations have agreed to hold direct talks. The talks will be based on the Geneva Communique, that is on the basis of June 2012 statement by world powers which called for the two sides to agree on the establishment of a transitional body.

Part of the confidence building measures will include a discussion over the next two days to provide humanitarian aid to the city of Homs, a hotspot of the armed Syrian crisis where rebels continue to battle government forces in the central districts.

Syria's conflict began with protests against President Bashar al-Assad's regime in March 2011. The human cost continues to climb as fighting rages. The death toll now exceeds 100,000 and millions have fled their homes, seeking sanctuary either in neighbouring countries or elsewhere in their troubled country. The international community has also accused government for using chemical weapons.
