Government Launches Platform for Women's Security Mobile Apps
Apr 23, 2015

Keeping women and children safety in mind the Government launched a platform for Women’s Security Mobile Apps. A concept note publicised few months back had said the priority areas for developing applications include providing security during emergency to women, children and senior citizens, creating awareness about good security practices and educating them about legal provisions.

The portal is aimed at giving public an opportunity to have access to a large number of security applications and ‘individuals, students, companies and NGOs’ to develop security-related applications and provide them a platform to deploy such applications.

  • Two apps are now available with the portal—SOS and Max Safe Trip.

  • The app SOS is a mobile application that focuses on the safety of the women.

  • Max Safe Trip is an application specifically created for women and minors who are most vulnerable to threats while travelling alone in private cabs.

  • Max Safe Trip ensures safe travel of the user by public transport like taxi. Using routes, deviation notifications, alarms and real-time tracking, Max Safe Trip ensures the passengers’ safety with ‘Who can track me’ or ‘Whom I can track’, easy to configure features.

  • Emergency alarm in case of trouble to sound locally and also notification to remote monitoring device.

  • If a change in route is detected, the user as well as phone monitoring the device will be notified.

  • The option to reroute redraws the route map. If reroute is not selected and user continues on the wrong path, then alarm and notifications are sent to the monitoring phones.

  • Though the government will not pay the app developers, they would be allowed to use some space in their application for advertisement purpose.

  • The platform is also expected to promote competition among developers to continuously improve their applications.

  • It will also promote innovation in developing security-related applications.
