Introduction-

In India funding to political parties is one of the worst kept secret in India. Most political parties get away with transferring their donations to the books, making use of the provision that allows cash donations under Rs 20,000 to remain anonymous. Dirty money in politics is the glue that holds the corruption edifice together. Hence there is a need of radical measure turns substantially on whether the pocketbooks of parties and politicians receive fresh scrutiny.

What can be done-?

  • There a need to end cash donations to political parties and compel them to process digital payments.
  • The provision that allows cash donations under Rs 20,000 to remain anonymous needs to be amended or removed.
  • The account books of political parties must be audited by third-party independent auditor. 
  • ECI should impose severe punishment for false or misleading disclosures on poll expenses as well as disclosing their personal assets and liabilities.

Conclusion-

The funding political parties have created a nexus between corruption and misuse of power. It is very deep rooted in India and it disrupts the development of nation based on equity. Hence this issue needs to be addressed by bringing various reform measures.
