Ans :

Introduction-

The United Arab Emirates Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was participated in India’s republic day celebration as a chief guest. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE’s crown prince have met three times in the last 18 months, which reflects growing relation between two countries.

India’s interest in UAE-

India’s interest in the UAE rests on several pillars like, trade ties of about $50 billion, energy and oil supplies from UAE (the world’s fifth largest exporter), the welfare of 2.6 million Indians who remit billions of dollars home annually, defence, security etc.

Relationship in recent times-

  • India and UAE’s bilateral ties have been robust since last few decades, but the defence and security partnership is clearly the new driver for ties between the two.
  • Recently signed (During recent visit of crown prince) strategic partnership agreement reflects growing relation between both across the sector.
  • The broad outline of strategic partnership now includes, joint military exercises, joint manufacturing and purchase of equipment and spare parts from India, as well as cooperation on fighting terror.
  • The joint statement also raised the issue of state-sponsored terror, it reflects that the UAE shares India’s frustration on cross-border terrorism from Pakistan.
  • India and UAE has signed various agreements, now both countries need to be implemented effectively with clarity and concrete measures.

Conclusion-

In recent times, the relation between both countries has witnessed positive movement across all sectors including defence and security. India and UAE relation is most important from India’s point of view as about 2.6 million India leaves in UAE’s soil. Both countries now need to implement their commitments with clarity and concrete measures.
