Air Defence zone declared over East china Sea by China
Nov 27, 2013

Recently China has declared the creation of an air zone over disputed islands in the East China Sea.

China has released a map related to it.

According to the guidelines aircraft in the area must report their flight plans to China, maintain two-way radio and clearly mark their nationalities on the aircraft. This space included a swath of the East China Sea, including the Daioyu/Senkaku islands. China further warned to "adopt defensive emergency measures to respond to aircraft that do not cooperate in the identification or refuse to follow the instructions."

It is unilaterally imposed, so it doesn't really have a legal basis. It’s purpose is to give the country an early warning zone in which it can intercept potentially unfriendly aircraft."

Related to this issue Japan warned of the danger of "unpredictable events" and South Korea voiced regret following China's unilateral declaration of an air defence zone over areas claimed by Tokyo and Seoul.

Whereas US flew two B-52 bombers over a disputed area of the East China Sea in open defiance of China's assertion that it should be informed in advance of any such flights over the region.
