Why in News? 

The Madhya Pradesh government has constituted a six-member committee to investigate how six thalassemia-affected children tested HIV positive 

Key Points 

  • Incident: Six children suffering from thalassemia were found HIV positive following routine blood transfusions at government hospitals in Satna, Jabalpur and other locations. 
  • Government Action: The Madhya Pradesh government issued an order, forming a six-member investigation panel and submitting a detailed report within seven days. 
  • Chairman: The committee is headed by Satya Avadhiya. 
  • Hygiene & Oversight Concerns: The incident has also raised broader concerns about healthcare safety and compliance with screening norms at public health facilities. 
  • Thalassemia: It is a hereditary blood disorder causing reduced or abnormal haemoglobin production, leading to anaemia.
