India’s First Government Hospital-Based AI Clinic | 07 Jan 2026

Why in News?

India’s first government hospital-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) clinic has been inaugurated at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

Key Points

  • Objective of the Clinic: The clinic will use artificial intelligence algorithms along with genetic screening to analyse blood tests, imaging scans, and clinical data to assist diagnosis and treatment.
  • Technology and Applications: AI tools will assist in interpreting X-rays, ultrasounds, CT scans, MRI reports and lab investigations.
    • It also supports genetic screening for serious illnesses like cancer, heart, kidney, and liver diseases.
    • AI-assisted robotic surgery support is also planned to improve surgical precision and post-operative outcomes
  • Healthcare Impact: The AI clinic is expected to improve diagnostic accuracy, reduce treatment time, enhance patient safety, and strengthen availability of quality care in public hospitals.
  • Significance: It provides a bridge between clinical needs and technological innovation, potentially transforming how public health services are delivered in India.

Do you know?

  • X-Ray: Discovered by  Röntgen in 1895
  • CT Scan (Computed Tomography):  Uses multiple X-ray beams
  • MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging): Uses magnetic fields & radio waves
  • Ultrasound: Frequency above 20 kHz. Bats, toothed whales and dolphins use ultrasound  for eco-location.
