The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru is the only Indian institution to feature in the global top 100, according to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject 2026.

• Only Indian Institute in Top 100: The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru is ranked within the global top 100 in the Computer Science subject category. 
  • Overall Indian Performance: Most Indian universities are placed in lower ranking bands (251–500 and beyond), indicating limited global competitiveness across subjects. 
• Global Dominance: Universities from the US and UK continue to dominate the top positions, with institutions like MIT, Oxford, Cambridge, and Stanford leading most subject rankings. 
  • Asian Comparison: Countries such as China, Singapore, and Hong Kong outperform India in subject-wise rankings, reflecting stronger research output and international collaboration.
