GI Tag for Khurma, Tilkut and Balushahi of Bihar | 03 Jun 2022

Why in News?

• Recently, NABARD’s General Manager Dr. Sunil Kumar said NABARD will help Khurma, Tilkut and Balushahi in Bihar to get GI tag.

Key Points

• Dr. Sunil informed that after obtaining the details of the features and the source of these sweets by NABARD for getting the GI tag, the manufacturers will be asked to apply for GI tags.
• It may be recalled that in Bihar, Tilkut of Gaya, Balushahi of Sitamarhi and Khurma of Udwantnagar in Bhojpur district are very famous.
• Many products from Bihar have already been granted GI tag, the details of which are as under:
  • Bhagalpuri Jardalu Mango
  • Katarani Rice
  • Magahi Betel (Paan)
  • Shahi Litchi
  • Madhubani Painting
  • Pipli Work
