Why in News? 

The Government of Bihar is moving ahead with plans to establish a Global Model Education City near Patna, with a Detailed Project Report (DPR) already prepared to develop a world-class academic and innovation hub. 

Key Points 

• Project: The proposed Education City will be developed on more than 250 acres of land near Patna and is envisioned as a major centre for higher education and research in Bihar. 
• Budget Allocation: The project has an initial estimated cost of around ₹547 crore. 
• Campus Model: The Education City will follow a shared campus system, allowing multiple universities and colleges to function within one integrated campus while sharing common infrastructure and facilities. 
• Inspiration: The project design is being developed based on international best practices, with consultation from experts from countries such as Japan and Singapore. 
• Proposed Facilities: The campus will include smart classrooms, digital libraries, advanced laboratories, research centres, seminar halls, hostels, sports complexes, auditoriums, and residential facilities for faculty and staff.
