Q - What is Civil Services Exam?
Ans - The nationwide exam conducted by the UPSC for the recruitment to IAS, IPS and Central Services, is known as Civil Service Exam.
Q - What is the exam pattern?
Ans -The Civil Services Examination comprises of three stages:
a) Prelims (objective type)
The Examination shall comprise two compulsory papers of 200 marks each.
b) Mains (written type)
Paper-I and II: Indian language and English compulsory.
Paper-III : Essay
Paper-IV : Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society
Paper V : Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations
Paper VI : Technology, Economic Development, Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management
Paper VII : Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude
Paper VIII and Paper IX : Optional Subject Papers I & II

Ans - Candidates are required to apply Online by using the website http:// www.upsconline.nic.in.
Q - Who are eligible to apply for the exam?
Ans - For the Indian Administrative Service and the Indian Police Service, a candidate must be a citizen of India. Whereas for other services, a candidate must be either:—
(a) a citizen of India, or
(b) a subject of Nepal, or
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or
(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
But the candidates belonging to categories (b), (c) and (d) above will not be eligible for appointment to the Indian Foreign Service.
Q - What is the maximum age limit of the applicant?
Ans - A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not be more than the age of 32 years for General Category 32 + 3 Years For OBC Candidates & For SC & ST 32 + 7 Years .
Q - What is the minimum qualification prescribed for the exam?
Ans - The candidate must hold a degree of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University by UGC.
Q - What are the numbers of attempts permitted to the applicant?
